There’s something undeniably timeless about “Aladdin.” The story’s energy, humor, and heart keep it fresh no matter how many times it’s reimagined. At Creative Cauldron, that charm gets a vivid update.

Their latest production of “Aladdin,” presented in a dynamic Dual Language Edition, adds a cultural and emotional richness that goes far beyond a typical retelling.

A Lively Cast That Delivers More Than Just Lines

From the moment Brian Dauglash steps on stage as Aladdin, he brings a magnetic energy to the role. With expressive movement and a bright charisma, he’s more than just the scrappy street-smart lead—he’s the soul of the show.

Alongside him, Odette Gutiérrez del Arroyo gives Princess Jazmín a strong and grounded presence, pushing the story forward with determination and intelligence.

Their chemistry is light and genuine, balanced by the comic punch of Whit Jenkins as the cheeky Abu (a role shared with Marie Solander). Jenkins keeps things bouncy and playful, making every scene feel alive.

And then there’s the Genie—played with show-stealing flair by Ariel Friendly. Dressed in gleaming, glittering blue thanks to Costume Designer Nyasha Klusmann, Friendly completely owns the stage. From the first entrance, she grabs the spotlight and never lets go. Her comedic timing, big voice, and confident strut bring the house down every time.

A Villain With Style, and a Supporting Cast That Soars

No version of “Aladdin” works without a solid villain, and Alan Gutierrez-Urista brings Jafar to life with just the right blend of drama and wit. He owns the role, pairing well with Anna Longnecker’s sly, smooth-talking Iago. Their back-and-forth adds layers of humor while keeping the stakes high.

The supporting ensemble, drawn from Creative Cauldron’s Musical Theater Training Ensemble, is sharp and vibrant. They rotate between roles as palace guards, shopkeepers, and even inanimate objects, all while staying completely locked into the scene. Every move they make adds depth and momentum to the show.

Songs, Settings, and a Whole New Kind of Magic

The familiar soundtrack of “Aladdin” hits every nostalgic note, thanks to Musical Director Bharati Soman. Classic numbers like “A Whole New World” and “Friend Like Me” are delivered with full heart and crisp execution.

Director Matt Conner keeps the pace moving, guiding the audience from the bustling market to the glittering palace with smooth transitions and thoughtful staging. Lighting by Lynn Joslin and projections from Nicholas J. Goodman create beautiful visuals, especially during the flying carpet scenes, which are brought to life by ensemble members who physically create the illusion of flight using fabric and movement.

Why the Dual Language Twist Works

What truly makes this version stand apart is how it uses language. Creative Cauldron didn’t simply translate the script. Instead, they wove English and Spanish together naturally, letting characters switch based on status, setting, and emotion. It creates an immersive experience that doesn’t need subtitles or interruptions.

Initially, royalty speaks one language while the townspeople speak another, showing a divide not just in class but in understanding. As the story unfolds and the curse lifts, both groups begin to understand each other—literally and symbolically. It’s a smart, subtle touch that resonates well beyond the stage.

The bilingual format opens doors for more audiences to feel seen and included, without sacrificing clarity or flow. It invites every viewer to lean in and connect, whether fluent in one language or both.

A Thoughtful Message Beneath the Magic

At its heart, “Aladdin” is about far more than magic lamps and hidden treasure. The show emphasizes friendship, honesty, and the importance of choosing selflessness over status. When Aladdin uses his final wish to help others rather than himself, it underscores a message that sticks with the audience long after the lights come up.

That message gets even more powerful when wrapped in a production this thoughtful. Creative Cauldron’s version isn’t just entertaining—it’s inclusive, smart, and full of heart.

A Must-See Production

Creative Cauldron’s “Aladdin” isn’t just a retelling—it’s a celebration of language, connection, and youthful imagination. With an exceptional cast, visually striking production, and a bilingual script that flows effortlessly, it’s a rare version of the story that feels both familiar and brand new.

This dual-language “Aladdin” does more than entertain—it opens up dialogue across cultures and reminds us how stories can bridge gaps, unite people, and inspire every generation. Whether you’re revisiting the tale or seeing it for the first time, this production has something special waiting at every turn.
